1. What happens when HubSpot contacts are deleted?

When a HubSpot contact is deleted, it moves to the recycle bin. It stays here for 90 days after which it is permanently removed from HubSpot and no longer recoverable.

2. How to recover deleted HubSpot contacts

HubSpot contacts can be recovered from the recycle bin within 90 days of deletion. Beyond 90 days, it is impossible to restore the contacts unless a backup solution like SysCloud is in place.

2.1. How to recover deleted contacts from the recycle bin

Step 1: Log in to your HubSpot account. Navigate to the ‘Contacts’ tab from the ‘Contacts’ dropdown menu.

Step 2: Select the ‘Actions’ dropdown and click ‘Restore records.’

Note:

1. To access the recycle bin, users must have the ‘Account access’ and ‘add and edit users’ permissions.

2. Contacts that are hard deleted will not be available in the recycle bin as they are permanently deleted from HubSpot.

Step 3: Select the contact(s) you wish to restore and click the ‘Restore’ button.

Step 4: To reconfirm, type the number of contacts you wish to restore, and click ‘Restore’.

Limitations of native HubSpot retention

1. Deleted contacts are available in the recycle bin only for 90 days after which they are permanently deleted.

2. You cannot restore a contact from the recycle bin if there is an existing contact with the same name.

Step 5: Check the ‘Overwrite records’ box if you wish to replace duplicate contacts. Add comments (if required) and click ‘Restore’.
